Assignments to Switzerland

All assignees to Switzerland, no matter how long they work here, have to have an adequate Swiss salary. So, if a kitchen maker comes for half a day to repair a kitchen in Basel or an expat for 4 years to Zürich, both have to earn an adequate Swiss salary during they are working in Switzerland.

Most cantons accept the calculation of the Swiss salary through the Swiss statistic office website. This website is available in German, French and Italian.

The evaluation shows different salaries, the one for Swiss, under 25%, for men, has to be taken as a benchmark, see example .

Calculation example: The Swiss salary is CHF 7’872 / month. The person earns, for example from Poland, CHF 4’000 / month. So, during the stay the person has to get in addition to his salary CHF 3’872 / month, CHF 193.60 / day, CHF 24.20 / hour. It doesn’t matter which country / entity pays this addition.

In addition to this salary difference the employer or the Swiss entity or customer have to pay to the employee food and lodging during his stay. To long-term assignees only in the first year.

Is this being controlled? People who come short term to Switzerland can be controlled on the site, in the office or where they work in Switzerland. Should the required conditions not being fulfilled the employer can get a fine of up to CHF 40’000. For long-term employees all information, paid difference to Swiss salary and allowances, have to be submitted with the working permit application.
