Registration of work in Switzerland

Switzerland has a registration process in the following areas:

  • For employers of temporarily present employees and posted workers to Switzerland, for up to 90 days within a calendar year and posting company
  • For self-employed service providers fulfilling a service provision of up to 90 working days within a calendar year
  • For Swiss employers, basing on the Free Movement Agreement (FZA), who employ workers for a period of up to three months within one calendar year
  • For cross-border commuters in the event of a change of employment
  • For cross-border commuters from non-EU / EFTA countries with a change of job after a continuous period of employment of five years
  • For employers of provisionally admitted persons and stateless persons, as well as persons to whom Switzerland has granted asylum or to whom it has provisionally accepted as refugees

Breaking the Swiss registration rules has legal consequences, for example, a criminal record entry or suspension from the Swiss market of the foreign company for several years.

Swiss companies or customers of foreign suppliers, who receive foreign workers on their Swiss premises, have a liability based on causality and can get a fine if there is a missing registration.
