Swiss Job Registration Requirement – Reactivation on June 8 after Corona Pause

The so-called job registration requirement («Stellenmeldepflicht»), is re-activated as per June 8th, 2020, after it had been stopped as a measure to ensure sufficient workforce availability in relevant fields during the Corona pandemic.

Following a public vote, the job registration requirement has been introduced in Switzerland in 2018 as a measure to enhance job chances of people living in Switzerland as opposed to other EU/EFTA nationals. The following regulations apply:

When an employer or recruiting company recruits for a position for which an unemployment rate above 5% applies, a specific process must be followed. Check whether the vacancy is on the list of professions that require a notification.

  • If yes, the responsible unemployment authority (RAV) has to be informed about your vacancy online (link to platform), by phone or in person, including an overview of its requirements.
  • Any further recruitment measures must be blocked for five workdays, starting on the workday after RAV has checked and confirmed your position.
  • Within three workdays, you receive candidate profies from the unemployment authority RAV. RAV is to be informed which candidates have been considered suitable, invited for an interview or employed.

These regulations apply, independently of whether or not the position is being occupied by a foreign national or not. Exceptions apply, however, when the position or selected candidate fulfil the following criteria:

  • The vacancy is filled internally with a person who has been working for the company for at least 6 months.
  • The vacancy is filled with a person who is related with a person who is authorized to sign for the employing company.
  • The vacancy is filled with a job seeker registered at RAV. These profiles can be found on the online platform “arbeit.swiss”.
  • The job lasts for a maximum of 14 calendar days.
